Who are the top VC firms in Vancouver? Vancouver has quietly become one of the most vibrant startup ecosystems in North America. With its proximity to Silicon Valley, strong research universities, and an increasing number of successful exits, the city has attracted a growing roster of venture capital firms focused on everything from cleantech and SaaS to consumer goods and life sciences.

But with over 300 firms listing Vancouver as home in databases like PitchBook, the real question is: which VC firms are actually deploying capital?

At Alphabridge, we wanted to answer this clearly and objectively. Using PitchBook’s investment data and a transparent scoring framework, we’ve compiled a data-backed list of the Top 10 Most Active VC Investors in Vancouver as of 2025.

Why This List Matters

There are many lists of “top VC firms” — but most rely on reputation, past exits, or subjective editor picks. Our goal was different: to rank VC firms based on current and consistent investment activity, not just historical prominence.

Whether you’re a founder seeking funding or an LP evaluating the Vancouver venture market, this list gives you a snapshot of the firms that are actively making investments and staying engaged in the market.

Methodology: How We Built This Ranking

We used PitchBook, a leading financial data platform, to screen for VC firms headquartered in Vancouver with ongoing activity. We then applied a blended scoring methodology to assess each firm across three key metrics:

1. Total Investments (60% weight)

This captures how many deals the firm has done in its lifetime, providing a sense of overall deal-making experience and reach. While some firms might be new but active, total deal volume helps anchor credibility and scale.

2. Active Portfolio (20% weight)

We looked at the number of companies currently in each firm’s portfolio. A higher number suggests a firm is engaged, providing ongoing support, and not simply exiting or winding down.

3. Investments in the Last 12 Months (20% weight)

This reflects recent activity — who’s actually writing checks now. It helps filter out firms that may be dormant or in harvest mode.

Additional Considerations:

  • We excluded accelerators, grant programs, and organizations not structured as traditional venture funds.
  • We filtered out investors that had no meaningful activity in the past 12–24 months, even if their total historical investments were high.
  • For transparency, all data is as of mid-2025 and sourced directly from PitchBook.

Final Thoughts

Vancouver’s VC landscape is evolving rapidly. While global firms like Inovia and BDC remain influential, the local investment community is increasingly made up of family offices, specialized funds, and sector-focused VCs who are actively deploying capital.

Our data-driven approach ensures that this list reflects real activity, not just brand recognition. If you’re a founder looking to raise, this can serve as a practical guide to who’s writing checks in 2025 — and help you better position your company for a compelling valuation when the time comes.
